Poetic Prose
I write articles on daily living as the ultimate system to be designed. This inclues saftey and nuerosystem relaxation to—the idea that a primitive part of our brain and nervous system cannot be “talked to” with words or advanced communication but relies on environmental and physical cues. I write on how to design spaces at home, and work that support well-being. I also write on finding your passion, my passions, and epic adventures! For too long luxury has tried to be devoid of ethics. I advocate for an atelier mindset: where indulgence aligns with sustainability. My writing draws from my background to lay out some truth to help us build meaningful lives and strong tribes.

For Courage
BY JOHN O'DONOHUE
When the light around you lessens
And your thoughts darken until
Your body feels fear turn
Cold as a stone inside,
When you find yourself bereft
Of any belief in yourself
And all you unknowingly
Leaned on has fallen,
When one voice commands
Your whole heart,
And it is raven dark,
Steady yourself and see
That it is your own thinking
That darkens your world.
Search and you will find
A diamond-thought of light,
Know that you are not alone,
And that this darkness has purpose;
Gradually it will school your eyes,
To find the one gift your life requires
Hidden within this night-corner.
Invoke the learning
Of every suffering
You have suffered.
Close your eyes.
Gather all the kindling
About your heart
To create one spark
That is all you need
To nourish the flame
That will cleanse the dark
Of its weight of festered fear.
A new confidence will come alive
To urge you towards higher ground
Where your imagination
will learn to engage difficulty
As its most rewarding threshold!

A note on selecting translations of Rumi's work for English-speakers: Jawid Mojaddedi or Nicholson provide faithful interpretations. Other translations are popular but not faithful... some paraphrase and many strips Islam from the work but keeps Christian references and thereby strip some of the most powerful messages. Example: Commonly translated "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there." is actually referencing the divide of Islam and Christianity he he was preaching love for all... truly profound for any era, but certainly for his time and many English translations in the USA removes that element. Coleman is a popular new-age translator but as he does not speak Persian, I would not call his work Rumi's so much as inspired by Rumi. As a poet himself, Coleman's work is enjoyable to read. One might wish he would have more clearly delineated that he significantly altered Rumi's texts in his publications. Coleman has been heavily criticized for his work, but we must also acknowledge that Coleman did much for spreading joy and Rumi's work in other countries, making Rumi what some have called the most popular poet in the USA.

Mindfulness
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary
awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
